From the Doorway

Carys Cox

From the Doorway

Books stacked everywhere
Marked half through

I smell cinnamon and vanilla
It reminds me of you

I feel your pink sweater
Hanging on the door

Bed perfectly made
But dresses on the floor

Wall full of maps
Places you’ll never see

The cat sleeps in a corner
Looks sad as can be

All this I notice
From the outside looking in

The memories of you
A glowing life that has been

I don’t go in
I can’t do this today

As if I never go in
You’ll have never gone away
