Alexandria Peary
BIO:

Alexandria Peary served as New Hampshire Poet Laureate from 2019-2024. For over twenty years, she has balanced creative and academic specialization and practice for a single reason: to support writers. Named "Most Inspiring Artist" by New Hampshire Magazine in 2021, she has given invited talks and readings in regional, national, and international venues, including a keynote address, a TEDx talk, and a webinar on mindful writing from 2020-2022 for the National Council of Teachers of English. She has received a 2020 Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship and a grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation/Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund (in support of this magazine). She is a presenter on New Hampshire Public Radio and for New Hampshire Humanities. The author of six books and editor of three books, her work has received the Iowa Poetry Prize, Slope Editions Prize, Joseph Langland Award, and Notable Essay in the 2014 and 2021 Best American Essay. Her writing has appeared in over 150 magazines and journals. A professor in the English Department at Salem State University, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in creative writing and mindful writing, Alex received the 2021 Outstanding Faculty Award. She holds a PhD in English/Composition from the University of New Hampshire, a MFA from the University of Iowa, a MFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a BA from Colby College. She is a 2024-2025 recipient of a Fulbright to write and research in Germany.
